Sharing knowledge about data

The Children’s Social Care Data User Group (CSCDUG) was established in early 2018, by and for those who use data about children’s social care to improve services and the welfare of children and families. CSCDUG provides a forum to share expertise and learning between all users and potential users of CSC data (such as the Children in Need and Children Looked After datasets in England) and to provide opportunities for collaboration and joint working between teams, including users of comparable international data.

Join the group by filling in the form below.

We now have over 200 members, and we continue to grow. We aim to provide a supportive, collaborative and non-hierarchical platform for discussions about how CSC data can be used and interpreted to inform policy and practice.

We run online seminars twice a year to showcase developments in policy, practice and research using CSC data – please visit our Events page for details of forthcoming seminars, and information about previous events. We also consult with members to produce responses to policy developments, have representation on the joint DfE/ONS Researchers Group, and use our email network to connect members looking for advice on specific issues. CSCDUG activities are currently organised by Lisa Holmes from the University of Sussex, Nikki Luke and Ludivine Garside of the Rees Centre at the University of Oxford, and Jenny Woodman at the Thomas Coram Research Unit at UCL Social Research Institute.
